Saint Xavier University’s Shannon Center is a state-of-the-art facility that provides users with a weight room, two gymnasiums, one racquetball court, an indoor track, restaurant, dance studio, and meeting areas. The 85,000 square foot facility's main arena seats up to 3,000 people for athletic events and special occasions, and serves as the home court for Saint Xavier's basketball and volleyball teams.
Shallow spread footings form the foundation system, while the superstructure consists of intermediate floor levels of composite slabs supported on steel beams. Long-span joists and structural steel girders support the long-span roof. The lateral system includes full-height cross bracing frames within demising walls and exterior walls, strengthening and stabilizing the building.
