Phase 1B of the McDonald's Corporate Office Building encompasses 284,000 square feet of office space, research and lab facilities, with an additional 300,000 square feet of enclosed below grade parking. The office building is the focal point of McDonald's Corporate Office Campus and Training Center. Corporate and architectural objectives required large bay spacings, minimum structural depth, and exposed architectural concrete.
As consulting structural engineers, CS Associates managed preliminary pricing documents, construction documents and specifications, construction administration, and field observation. Our solution to this complex building included office bays measuring 30 feet by 48 feet supported by post-tensioned slabs and beams. The office bays are transferred to the 30-foot square parking bay by means of 60-inch deep post-tensioned girders, and parking levels are supported by two-way post-tensioned flat slabs. This carefully designed structural system met McDonald's Corporation’s objective of maximum flexibility.
