The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons required an innovative building that would house both office spaces and highly specialized medical facilities. The design includes traditional office space for 350 employees and a separate 30,000 square feet of surgical and teaching spaces. The building transfers column loads along the east and south sides to a small, one-story area, connecting offices with medical facilities.
Nine associations operated as separate tenants on this project, all with their own design preferences. The architects led a collaborative design process, which resulted in unique spaces, each reflecting the individual tenants’ goals while contributing to one cohesive aesthetic. At the core of AAOS’ specialized requirements was the need for a 30,000 square foot, state-of-the-art Orthopaedic Learning Center for training conferences and seminars.
